This Panel aims to offer an overview of this movement, today spreading and interconnecting through partnerships and learning networks in many of the world’s nations. We will present trends, debate particularities, dilemmas and opportunities towards overcoming the challenges faced in promoting the movement internationally.

The corporate social responsibility movement is growing in Brazil. In this Panel, prepared jointly with the Ethos Institute’s associates, partners and fellow stakeholders, we will hold a full discussion of the breakthroughs, pitfalls and prospects for the Brazilian movement.

This Workshop will address the strategic role of environmental management in planning for sustainable development, examining the tools used by companies. It will also address conceptual issues concerning the integration of environmental management in strategies to strengthen intangible corporate assets and their practical repercussions in companies’ day to day business.

Self-regulation of business social responsibility
There are countless global and local strategies aiming at the self-regulation of corporate social responsibility. To debate this issue we shall be putting forward two important initiatives: the setting-up of a new series of ISO standards relating to corporate social responsibility, in which process Brazil plays a crucial role, and the experience accumulated by GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), in its Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, launched in June 2000

Communication plays an important role in building society’s values. It disseminates values, forms opinion, spurs actions, promotes a nation’s culture. In this Panel we will debate the impacts and the contribution of corporate communication in creating and disseminating the ethical values of a sustainable society.
