JACQUES MARCOVITCH is a Business Strategy and International Relations Professor at Universidade de São Paulo – USP. President of the State of São Paulo utilities (CESP, CPFL, Eletropaulo and Comgás), he was Secretary of State for Economy and Planning in the Government of São Paulo. Since 2002, he has been developing research on the implementation of the Convention on Climate Changes/Kyoto Protocol and on initiatives for the reduction of greenhouse gases emission.

Major in History from UnB (University of Brasília). Bank of Brazil employee since 1977. President of Bank of Brazil Foundation since 2003. Former President of Brasília Bank Employees’ Union, 2001 and 2002; Regional Administrator of the Federal District satellite city of Samambaia from 1995 to 1998, when he started performing in the social area.

Vice President of the World Wildlife Fund. He has farmed, taught at Harvard and Yale, worked in the US Department of Agriculture and spent 30 years working with NGOs. Clay invented ecolabels in the US and is now developing certification standards for cotton, sugarcane, soy, palm oil and shrimp. He has authored 15 books and 300 articles, including Aquaculture and the Environment (in press) and World Agriculture and the Environment (2004).

After becoming a member of the Transparency International’s Board in May 2003, Jermyn relinquished his executive role in the Berlin secretariat but continues to focus on TI´s key private sector initiatives. Previously, he made a career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was elected worldwide chairman of the firm in 1997. In 1998 he played a key role in negotiating the PwC merger and until his retirement in 2000, he oversaw the completion of the merger in some 150 countries around the world.

Previously, he worked in the Financial Markets Group of the Sub-Saharan Africa Department and the Transaction Group of the Global Financial Markets Department, where he was responsible for the appraisal and structuring of new IFC investment projects, initially in Africa and subsequently on a worldwide basis.
